MOST public art is appalling, according to world-renowned sculptor Anish Kapoor, who says a cultural move away from glorifying war with monuments has increased the onus on artists to produce meaningful work.
Speaking yesterday ahead of the annual Ann Lewis Contemporary Visual Arts International Address in Sydney, the Indian-born British artist said creators of public works had a cultural responsibility to society.
