This stunning landscape of flooded rice fields in Yuanyuang, China, was taken by photographer George Doupas. The dividing lines of black and blue contrast sharply with the shimmering knee-deep water as it reflects the light sky

The black areas are trees and the blue stripes are greenhouses where the local Hani tribe cultivate vegetables.

George said: 'I love to travel a lot and visiting Yuanyuang has been on my list of places to visit for a long time.

'The whole area of rice terraces in Yuanyuang is about 12,500 hectares and the local Hani tribe have been cultivating it to create rice terraces for more than 700 years.

'I have also seen rice terraces in Indonesia and other parts of China but I have never seen anything as breathtaking as the Yuanyuang terraces.

'The fields are filled with water from December to April, offering a picturesque view.

'The harvest time starts after the Golden Week holiday in October.' George, from Beijing, China, added: 'Working and harvesting the rice terraces is really hard work.

'Since I visited Yuanyuang I have learned to appreciate the rice I eat a lot more - I now eat until the last grain.'
